Introduction
With a fast-paced lifestyle and high stress levels, people often feel tense and anxious. Today, I'm sharing a simple and effective gentle exercise - diaphragmatic breathing. It comes from traditional Chinese health preservation concepts, emphasizing the balance of yin and yang and calming the mind to cultivate energy. Spending a few minutes each day on this exercise can gradually calm your body and mind, ease your emotions, and bring inner peace.
Applicable for Emotional Discomfort

This exercise is especially suitable when you feel irritable, heart palpitations, tired, or have trouble sleeping, or when your mind is confused after work. It requires no effort, carries no risks, and anyone can do it anytime.
Steps to Practice
Find a quiet place, standing or sitting is fine. Keep your feet shoulder-width apart and relax your body.
Close your eyes and place one hand on your stomach.
Breathe in slowly through your nose, feeling your belly rise, like inflating a balloon. Count mentally 1, 2, 3.

Hold your breath for a moment, counting 1, 2.
Breathe out slowly through your mouth, feeling your belly sink, like a balloon deflating. Count mentally 1, 2, 3, 4.
Repeat 5 to 10 times until your breathing becomes deep and even.
Principle of Gentle Regulation
In traditional Chinese medicine, deep breathing regulates the flow of "qi" (vital energy), bringing balance between yin and yang. Inhaling absorbs fresh energy, while exhaling releases internal waste and tension. The rising and falling of the belly helps the body relax and aids in calming the mind and cultivating energy. This practice doesn't tire the body but instead acts like an internal massage.
Summary

Diaphragmatic breathing is one of the simplest mind-body balance exercises. Spending a few minutes each day can help you return to a calm and comfortable state. Remember, you don't need to perform it perfectly; comfort is enough. With consistent practice, you will find yourself becoming more peaceful.
