Simple Daily Habit of 5 Minutes Breathing Exercise to Promote Smooth Flow of Qi and Blood

Introduction: A Gentle Pause for a Busy Life

Are you often feeling dizzy and exhausted, with no energy left, after being filled with work, housework, and phone messages every day? Actually, just 5 minutes can help your body feel light again. Today, I share a small habit from traditional Chinese health practices - a 5-minute breathing exercise. It requires no tools, doesn't depend on time or place, yet gently helps the flow of qi and blood become smoother, allowing your mind and body to return to a calm and comfortable state.

When is it suitable to practice?

This breathing exercise is especially suitable for the following situations:

  • Feeling drowsy in the afternoon and having trouble concentrating
  • Having racing thoughts at night and struggling to fall asleep
  • Sitting for long periods at work, feeling chest tightness and stiff shoulders
  • Feeling irritable and easily angered

It is not suitable to practice when extremely hungry or right after a heavy meal, nor is it recommended while driving or operating machinery.

Practice Steps: Simple Three Steps, Easy to Learn

Step One: Find a Comfortable Position You can lie flat on your bed or sit on a chair with back support. Gently close your eyes, and let your hands rest naturally on your knees or on the sides of your body.

Step Two: Breathe In Slowly Through Your Nose Imagine breathing into your abdomen rather than your chest - like inflating a balloon inside your belly. Count silently for 4 seconds, feeling your lower abdomen gradually expand.

Step Three: Breathe Out Slowly Slightly open your mouth, as if gently blowing out a candle, and slowly exhale the air, counting for 6 seconds. The exhalation time should be twice as long as the inhalation, which allows the parasympathetic nervous system to relax, letting your body truly "relax." Repeat this process for 5 minutes, about 10-15 breaths.

Mild Adjustment Principle: Why Does This Breathing Improve Qi and Blood Flow?

Traditional Chinese health practices emphasize "adjusting according to the time and maintaining smooth flow of qi and blood." When we breathe deeply and slowly, the diaphragm moves up and down, gently massaging the internal organs in the abdominal cavity, promoting circulation around the internal organs. At the same time, prolonged exhalation stimulates the vagus nerve, slowing the heart rate and lowering blood pressure, entering a state similar to "recharging." Practicing this for 5 minutes daily allows the flow of qi and blood to become smoother, gradually reducing fatigue and improving sleep quality.

Summary

A 5-minute breathing habit each day is a small gift for yourself. It's effortless and doesn't take much time, yet it can help the flow of qi and blood become smoother and make your mind and body more relaxed. Start trying it tonight.
