5-Minute Simple Qigong Exercises Every Day, Easily Relieve Stiff Shoulders and Neck, Awakening a Sense of Full-Body Relaxation

A Gentle Invitation for a Busy Body

Do you often feel like your shoulders are carrying a small mountain? Sitting for long periods, looking down at your phone, and your neck and shoulders become tight and stiff, making it hard to turn around. In fact, just 5 minutes a day, a simple qigong movement, can gradually loosen up the stiffness, allow the qi and blood to flow again, and awaken a sense of relaxation throughout your body.

A Simple Tip: Hands Supporting the Sky

This movement comes from traditional qigong, which we have simplified into a gentle version that requires no equipment and can be done at home, especially suitable for those with stiff shoulders and necks or high stress levels.

Movement Steps

  • Stand naturally with your feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent, and arms relaxed at your sides.
  • Inhale deeply, slowly raise your arms from your sides as if supporting a cloud, turning your palms upward until they are above your head.
  • Exhale slowly, letting your arms gently return to your sides like feathers.
  • Repeat 10 times, taking about 3 minutes. Then slow down and continue with another 10 repetitions, feeling your body gradually open up.

How to Coordinate Breathing

As you inhale, imagine clear air rising from your feet to the top of your head; as you exhale, let the tension in your shoulders, neck, and back leave your body with the breath. Don't hold your breath; keep your breathing natural and smooth.

Why This Is So Effective

This movement gently stretches the chest and spine, promoting the circulation of qi and blood around the shoulders and neck. Traditional Chinese medicine says "when qi flows freely, there is no pain." When the qi is smooth, the stiffness naturally decreases. At the same time, deep breathing helps relax the mind and body, easing tense emotions. This is the wisdom of "balancing movement and stillness, and gentle daily nourishment."

Safety Tips

The movement should always be slow and gentle, without forcing too much strength. If you feel dizzy or uncomfortable, stop and rest. Avoid practicing when you are overly full or too hungry.

Give Yourself 5 Minutes

Five minutes a day is not rigorous training, but a gentle gift for your body. After sticking to it for a week, you will find your shoulders feel lighter, and your whole body will feel as refreshed as after a good night's sleep. Try it now and let the long-lost sense of ease return to your body.
