Why Should We Nourish the Liver in Spring?
Spring is the season when all things grow. According to traditional Chinese medicine, the liver is most active during this time. After the winter of storage, the body needs to be gently awakened in spring. If the liver qi is not smooth, it's easy to feel tired, irritable, or prone to internal heat. By following nature and using daily ingredients for gentle regulation, the body can smoothly transition into the warm season.

A Bowl of Gentle Goji Berry and Chrysanthemum Porridge
This recipe is simple and safe, suitable for people who often stay up late, have dry eyes, or get easily angry. It doesn't provide a strong nourishment, but instead gradually nurtures the body.
What You Need to Prepare
- Glutinous rice: half a cup (about 100 grams)
- Dried chrysanthemums: 5-6 flowers (choose Hangbai chrysanthemum or fetal chrysanthemum)
- Goji berries: a small handful (about 15 pieces)
- Ice sugar or honey: a little (optional)
Cooking Steps
- Soak the chrysanthemums: Soak the chrysanthemums with warm water, take out the petals, and keep the chrysanthemum water for later use.
- Cook the porridge: Wash the glutinous rice, add enough water, bring to a boil over high heat, then simmer over low heat for 20 minutes until the rice blossoms.
- Add chrysanthemums and goji berries: Put the chrysanthemum petals, goji berries, and the chrysanthemum water into the porridge and cook for another 5 minutes.
- Seasoning: After turning off the heat, let it cool down a bit, then add a little ice sugar or honey according to taste. Note that honey should be added after the porridge cools below 60°C to avoid destroying its nutrients.
Gentle Regulation Principle
Chrysanthemums clear heat, goji berries nourish the liver blood, and glutinous rice protects the spleen and stomach. Together, they are neither too cold nor too dry, making them very suitable for drinking in spring. Drinking a bowl in the morning or evening can make you feel as if your body has been gently comforted.
