Introduction
Do you often feel stiff shoulders and aching back, as if waking up is like starting a rusty machine? A simple 10-minute Tai Chi routine every day, without any equipment or perfect form, just slowly moving in your living room, can promote the circulation of qi and blood, make joints flexible, and help your body and mind relax. This is not a competition, but a gentle self-care treatment.
Why can Tai Chi relieve stiffness?

According to traditional Chinese medicine, "smooth flow means no pain," and stiffness often results from stagnation of qi and blood. Tai Chi takes slow as fast, and softness overcomes hardness. Through continuous circular movements combined with deep and long breathing, it guides the flow of qi and blood along meridians, melting muscle tension like ice melting in spring. Ten minutes a day, combining movement and stillness, does not consume energy but awakens the body's natural vitality.
Simple Core Exercise: Cloud Hands (Relieve Shoulder, Back and Waist)
Applicable Discomforts
It is suitable for stiff neck and shoulders caused by prolonged sitting, lower back pain, and tightness across the entire back caused by stress.
Exercise Steps
- Feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent, weight on the center of the soles, like tree roots, stable.
- Hands in front of the abdomen as if holding a ball, left hand slowly moves upward and to the left, eyes follow the left hand, while the weight gradually shifts to the left leg; the right hand naturally follows to the chest.
- Then the right hand moves upward and to the right, shifting the weight to the right leg, and the left hand returns to the chest. Alternating left and right, five times per side, doing 2-3 sets.
Breathing Coordination

As the hands rise (when moving upward in an arc), breathe in slowly, feeling fresh air entering from the top of the head; as the hands descend (when returning), exhale slowly, expelling stale air through the soles of the feet. The breathing rhythm doesn't need to be deliberately deep and long, just natural and smooth.
Mild Adjustment Principle
Cloud hands move the spine left and right, relaxing the erector spinae muscles and fascia around the scapulae; when shifting the weight, the soles continuously adjust, activating the qi and blood in the lower limbs, while also allowing the mind to empty and the spirit to return to its place.
Summary

Ten minutes a day is like making a minor adjustment for your body. It doesn't require sweating heavily or remembering complex routines. Go slower, breathe deeper, and feel the qi gently flowing within your body. After a week of practice, you will find yourself sitting straighter, sleeping more deeply, and feeling calmer inside.
