Acupressure Meridians

Daily shoulder and neck discomfort doesn't have to be endured; a three-minute acupoint pressure relief technique for quick relief

Introduction

Sitting in front of a computer for too long, or looking down at your phone for extended periods can cause shoulder and neck pain, as if there's a heavy stone pressing on them. Many people tend to endure the discomfort, but actually, Traditional Chinese Medicine offers a gentle and simple method - acupressure. Spending three minutes every day can significantly relieve shoulder and neck tension. No professional tools are needed, and it can be done at home, ensuring safety and peace of mind.

Find the Two Right Acupoints for Better Results

The following tip mainly involves massaging two acupoints: Fengchi (Wind Pool) and Jianjing (Shoulder Well).

  • Fengchi (Wind Pool): Located below the back of the head, in the depression on the outer side of the two large muscles, one on each side.
  • Jianjing (Shoulder Well): On the top of the shoulder, along the line directly above the nipple, at the highest point of the shoulder muscle.

Three-Minute Acupressure Practical Steps

It is recommended to sit down, relax the entire body, and breathe evenly.

Step 1 (about 1 minute): Place the thumbs of both hands on the Fengchi acupoints on either side, and support the head with the other fingers. Gently press inward and upward with the fingertips, applying a force that causes a mild soreness and distension but remains comfortable. Slowly make circles about 30 times, rest for 10 seconds, then continue another 30 circles.

Step 2 (about 1 minute): Join the middle three fingers of the right hand and place them on the left Jianjing acupoint, gently press and circle while slowly turning the neck, doing three turns on each side. Switch to the left hand to press the right Jianjing acupoint and perform the same operation.

Step 3 (about 1 minute): Cover the shoulder area completely with the palm, and gently push from the neck towards the arm, doing five times on each side to promote smoother circulation of qi and blood.

The TCM Principle of Gentle Regulation

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, shoulder and neck pain often results from poor circulation of qi and blood, and blocked meridians. Pressing the Fengchi acupoint helps unblock the qi flow between the head and neck, while the Jianjing acupoint helps regulate the qi and blood of the shoulders and back. Gentle acupressure is like a soft touch for the meridians, gradually dissolving blockages and allowing the body to feel relaxed and balanced naturally.

Daily Light Care Tips

The acupressure technique must be gentle, especially for the elderly or those who are weak. If you experience severe pain or discomfort, stop immediately. This method is only for daily relaxation and should not replace medical diagnosis or treatment. If the discomfort persists, please seek medical attention promptly.

Summary

No need to endure shoulder and neck pain. Spend three minutes every day massaging Fengchi and Jianjing, combined with gentle pushing, and you can give yourself a gentle moment of relaxation. Remember the three keywords "gentle, slow, and comfortable," bringing more calm and comfort to your busy day.
