Acupressure Meridians

Self-Relief Guide for Shoulder Pain Acupoints: Massage These 5 Acupoints to Easily Alleviate Shoulder and Neck Soreness

Long hours of hunching over a desk or looking down at your phone can easily lead to sore and stiff shoulders and neck. Instead of just enduring it, try traditional Chinese acupoint massage. By simply rubbing several key points, you can help unblock the meridians and balance the flow of qi and blood, allowing your shoulders and neck to feel relaxed again.

肩痛穴位自救指南:按揉这5个穴位,轻松缓解肩颈酸胀

1. Shoulders Well (Jianjing) Point: Relieve Shoulder Tension

Located at the midpoint of the line connecting the highest point of the shoulder and the base of the neck. Gently rub this point with your middle finger for 3 minutes, until you feel a sense of soreness and distension. It effectively relieves stiffness in the shoulder muscles.

2. Wind Pool (Fengchi) Point: Alleviate Soreness at the Back of the Neck

Located below the back of the head, in the depression on the outer side of the two large tendons. Use your thumbs to gently rub this point, which helps relieve stiffness and dizziness at the back of the neck.

3. Union Valley (Hegu) Point: Regulate Qi and Blood Flow

On the back of the hand, at the highest point of the muscle when the thumb and index finger are brought together. Pressing this point can unblock the qi and blood flow of the Large Intestine Meridian, indirectly regulating shoulder and arm pain.

4. Rear Stream (Houxi) Point: Improve Scapular Mobility

When slightly clenched, the end of the transverse crease behind the joint of the little finger's metacarpophalangeal joint is the location. Place your hand on the edge of a table and roll it to stimulate, or rub this point, which can improve soreness and limited mobility in the scapular area.

5. Shoulder Apex (Jianyu) Point: Unblock Arm Meridians

Located in front of the acromion, when the arm is raised horizontally, two depressions appear, and the front one is the location. Massaging this point can promote local circulation of qi and blood, relieving discomfort around the shoulder.

Rub each acupoint for 1-2 minutes, with a mild feeling of soreness and distension, once daily. Be gentle with your movements and avoid applying too much pressure. If the pain persists or worsens, seek medical attention promptly. May you be able to stretch freely every day, with comfortable shoulders and neck.
