Acupressure Meridians

No need for medicine! Acupressure sleep aid method, press every day, sleep more soundly.

Introduction: Can't Sleep at Night? Stop Relying on Medication

On sleepless nights, lying in bed tossing and turning, the more anxious you become, the more awake you feel. Many people immediately think of sleeping pills, but long-term use not only leads to dependence but may also cause side effects such as dizziness and memory loss. In fact, our body has its own "sleep switch" - acupoints. Spending a few minutes before bedtime pressing a few key acupoints can help relax the mind and body, naturally leading to a sweet sleep. This method originates from traditional Chinese medicine meridian theory, is gentle and safe, requires no medication, and is especially suitable for modern people's daily light health care.

1. The First Acupoint for Calming the Mind: Shenmen (Spirit Gate)

The Shenmen point is located on the inner side of the wrist, on the transverse crease, near the wrist joint, in the depression. Pressing the Shenmen point can directly regulate the qi and blood of the Heart Meridian, relieving palpitations, anxiety, and restlessness. When performing the technique, press vertically with the tip of the thumb until a slight soreness and distension are felt. Rub for 3 minutes each time, alternating hands. For better results, perform while breathing deeply.

2. Relieve Tension in Neck and Shoulders: Anmian (Sleep) Point

Many people suffer from insomnia due to tension in the neck and shoulders during the day, causing upward flow of qi. The Anmian point is located behind the earlobe, at the midpoint of the line connecting Yifeng (Wind Gate) and Fengchi (Wind Pool), that is, the depression behind the ear. Use the index and middle fingers together to gently rub in circles for 2 minutes each time. This action can unblock the meridians of the head, relaxing tense nerves, especially suitable for office workers who spend long hours looking at computers or phones.

3. Guide Fire Back to the Origin: Yongquan (Spring Gushing)

The Yongquan point is located at the center of the depression on the front one-third of the foot, when the toes are bent. According to traditional Chinese medicine, insomnia often occurs due to "incongruence between the heart and kidney," meaning excessive heart fire and insufficient kidney water. Pressing the Yongquan point can guide the fire downward, allowing the floating false fire to return to the kidney, achieving a balance between water and fire. Before bedtime, push and press the Yongquan point 100 times from the heel towards the toes with the thumb, or press it after soaking your feet in warm water. The warmth combined with acupoint stimulation helps you fall asleep faster.

4. Regulate Qi and Blood: Neiguan (Inner Gate)

The Neiguan point is located on the inner side of the forearm, about three fingers' width above the transverse crease of the wrist, between two tendons. This point is an important acupoint of the Pericardium Meridian, which can relieve chest tightness, palpitations, and emotional irritability. Press with the thumb, applying gentle pressure, and combine it with deep breathing. Rub each side for 3 minutes. If you feel a mild numbness or soreness during pressing, it indicates that the qi and blood are being unblocked.

Although the acupressure method for sleep is simple, it lies in persistence. Spend 10 minutes every night before bedtime pressing these acupoints: Shenmen, Anmian, Yongquan, and Neiguan, allowing the body to gradually relax and the qi and blood to naturally harmonize. Remember, the technique must be gentle, comfortable, and not forceful. If you have severe sleep disorders or underlying diseases, please seek medical attention promptly. Acupressure is an auxiliary health method and cannot replace formal treatment. May you sleep soundly every night and wake up full of energy.
