Acupressure Meridians

Press these pain-relieving acupoints for 3 minutes daily to easily relieve shoulder and neck stiffness.

Introduction: Are Your Shoulders Always Bearing the Pressure in Silence?

Spending long hours sitting in front of a computer, looking down at your phone, or hunched over work... modern people's shoulders and necks are like tightly twisted ropes, with soreness, stiffness, and aching becoming common. Actually, you don't need to go to a massage parlor or endure the pain—just spend 3 minutes a day pressing on a few of the body's own "pain-relief switches," and you can gradually relax tense muscles. These methods come from traditional Chinese health wisdom, stimulating specific acupoints to unblock meridians and balance qi and blood, achieving a gentle and soothing effect. Let's learn three most practical acupoints that can be operated at home, safe and simple.

每天3分钟按压这些止痛穴位,轻松缓解肩颈酸胀

Fengchi (GB20): The Remedy for Discomfort at the Back of the Head

Applicable Area: The depression below the back of the head, where the neck meets the skull, often feels sore and swollen.

Acupoint Location: Find the two large tendons behind the ears (sternocleidomastoid muscle) and the depression at the base of the skull. There are two points, left and right, which are Fengchi points.

Operation Method: Use the fingertips of both thumbs to press the acupoint, while the other four fingers gently support the head. Gently push upward toward the top of the head, until a slight soreness is felt. Press for about 1 minute each time, combined with deep breathing to relax the neck muscles.

Mild Adjustment Principle: Fengchi is a gathering place of yang energy. Pressing it can promote the circulation of blood and qi in the head, relieving soreness caused by poor blood supply to the neck and shoulders. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, "wind is the leader of all diseases." Stimulating this point can dispel wind and cold, allowing tension in the neck and back to gradually dissipate with breath.

Jianjing (GB21): Relieve Stiffness in Shoulders and Back

Applicable Area: The area between the highest point of the shoulder and the base of the neck, when it feels heavy and sore as if carrying a heavy load.

Acupoint Location: At the midpoint of the line connecting the clavicle and the outer end of the shoulder, which is the middle of the line between the Dazhui point (the most prominent bone at the back of the neck when you bend your head) and the acromion process, left and right respectively.

Operation Method: First, use the fingers of the right hand to press the Jianjing point on the left shoulder, massaging in a circular motion for 1 minute; then switch to the left hand to press the right shoulder. Start with light pressure and gradually increase it, until the sensation spreads throughout the entire shoulder and back.

Mild Adjustment Principle: Jianjing is known as the "gas well of the shoulder and neck." Pressing it can regulate the qi of the Shaoyang meridian and unblock the "traffic jam" between the upper limbs and the head. Once the qi and blood flow smoothly, the soreness will naturally disappear like melting ice, making you want to stretch involuntarily.

Houxi (SI3): Relax Anytime, Anywhere

Applicable Area: Wrist, forearm, and shoulder-neck tension caused by long-term gripping a mouse or holding a phone.

Acupoint Location: When lightly clenched into a fist, the depression under the protruding bone at the end of the transverse crease on the side of the little finger is the Houxi point.

Operation Method: Place the side of one hand's little finger on the edge of a table or chair, and use the thumb of the other hand to press vertically. Each time for 30 seconds, then switch hands. You can also place both Houxi points opposite each other and rub them until they feel warm.

Mild Adjustment Principle: Houxi is one of the eight extraordinary meridians' meeting points, directly connected to the Du meridian (the central meridian on the back), which can indirectly relieve pressure on the entire upper back and cervical spine. It's like pressing the "update button" on the body, allowing fatigue to dissipate quickly through rubbing.

Summary: Make 3 Minutes a Daily Ritual

These three acupoints are like the body's own "pain-relief buttons." When you feel soreness and tightness in your shoulders and neck, you can spend 3 minutes anytime to gently awaken them. No need to exert too much force, nor strict time requirements—key is to maintain steady breathing and feel the soothing effect brought by the flow of qi and blood. By persistently pressing daily, you will gradually find that your stiff shoulders become soft, and your head no longer feels heavy. Remember, health preservation is a gentle lifestyle, not a huge task. From today on, give your shoulders and neck a 3-minute hug.
