Acupressure Meridians

Master 5 Key Acupoints, Easily Alleviate Stress, and Self-Regulate Body and Mind at Home

Introduction: Eastern Wisdom Helps You Release Tension

Modern life is full of stress, with occasional aches in the shoulders and back, and emotions easily becoming irritable. In fact, the body has its own natural "relaxation switch" - acupoints. According to traditional Chinese medicine, gently pressing specific acupoints can unblock meridians, balance qi and blood, and help the mind and body return to a state of calm. No professional knowledge is needed; it only takes a few minutes each day at home. The following introduces five key acupoints for pressure relief, helping you relax effortlessly.

掌握5个关键stress relief meridians穴位,轻松舒缓身心居家自调

1. Hegu (LI 4): Alleviate Headaches and Tension

Location: On the back of the hand, at the depression between the first and second metacarpal bones, at the junction of the thumb and index finger.

Technique: Use the thumb of the other hand to press gently, until a slight soreness or distension is felt. Rub for 1-2 minutes each time, alternating hands.

Regulation Principle: Hegu is an important point on the Large Intestine Meridian of Hand-Yangming. Pressing it can dispel wind pathogens, unblock meridians, and relieve pain, offering a gentle relief for head tension and stiff necks.

2. Neiguan (PC 6): Soothe Emotions and Protect the Heart

Location: On the inner side of the forearm, about three fingers' width above the wrist crease, between the two tendons.

Technique: Press with the tip of the thumb towards the arm, while gently rotating in circles. For better results, combine with deep breathing. Rub each side for 1 minute.

Regulation Principle: Neiguan belongs to the Pericardium Meridian of Hand-Jueyin, and is commonly used to regulate the mind and stabilize emotions. Pressing it can relieve chest tightness, ease palpitations, and reduce anxiety.

3. Taichong (LR 3): Alleviate Depression and Release Anger

Location: On the top of the foot, in the depression before the joint between the first and second toes.

Technique: When sitting, use both thumbs to press the Taichong points on both feet, gradually increasing the pressure. Rub for 3-5 minutes. A feeling of soreness or distension indicates that the meridians are being unblocked.

Regulation Principle: Taichong is the original point of the Liver Meridian. The liver governs the smooth flow of qi. Excessive stress can lead to stagnation of liver qi, and massaging Taichong helps guide the qi downward, relieve irritability, and make emotions more balanced.

4. Baihui (GV 20): Refresh the Mind and Calm Thoughts

Location: At the top of the head, at the intersection of the line connecting the two ear tips and the midline of the head.

Technique: Gently press and rotate with the fingertip of the index or middle finger. The pressure should be light. Each session lasts 1 minute, and closing your eyes enhances the effect.

Regulation Principle: Baihui is where the Governor Vessel intersects with multiple yang meridians. Pressing it can elevate clarity and reduce turbidity, calming the mind and providing a gentle adjustment for mental fog and stress-related insomnia.

5. Zusanli (ST 36): Nourish Qi and Blood, Enhance Stress Resistance

Location: On the outer side of the lower leg, four fingers below the kneecap, one horizontal finger away from the tibia.

Technique: Press with the thumb or fist, with moderate pressure, aiming for a sensation of soreness and numbness. Rub each leg for 3 minutes.

Regulation Principle: Zusanli is the confluence point of the Stomach Meridian, a vital point for strengthening the body. Pressing it can strengthen the stomach and spleen, nourish qi and blood, and enhance the body's ability to cope with stress, making one more stable and energetic.

Summary: Gentle Daily Care, Maintaining Peace

The five acupoints mentioned above are simple and safe, suitable for self-adjustment at home. Spend a few minutes each day, using gentle techniques to press, combined with deep breathing and a relaxed mindset, and you will feel positive changes in your body. Remember, acupoint regulation is part of daily care and cannot replace medical treatment. By consistently practicing gentle self-care, stress will gradually melt away, allowing the body and mind to naturally relax and unfold.
