Why Do Your Shoulders and Neck Always "Complain"?
Long hours sitting at a desk, looking down at your phone, and high stress levels... these daily habits make your shoulders and neck like tightly stretched violin strings, causing soreness and stiffness to sneak in. Don't worry, you don't have to rely on massage therapists or expensive devices. Traditional Chinese medicine emphasizes "smooth flow means no pain." By gently pressing acupoints, you can unblock meridians, balance the flow of qi and blood, and gradually relax tense muscles. The following three-step method can be done at home or in the office, safe and gentle.

Step 1: Locate the "Fengchi" Acupoint at the Back of the Neck, Relieve Tension in the Head
Applicable Area: The junction between the back of the head and the neck, where soreness often spreads to the top of the head.
Pressure Point: Place your thumbs on the depression on both sides of the hairline at the back of the neck (about two finger widths behind the earlobe), while the other four fingers gently support the head.
Technique: Gently press with the thumb pad in a slow circular motion, applying pressure similar to touching a ripe peach - not painful, but you should feel a tingling sensation spreading outward. Press for one minute each time, coordinating with deep breathing (press lightly while inhaling, and relax while exhaling).
Gentle Principle: Fengchi is the gateway for wind pathogens to invade. Pressing it can dispel cold and tension in the head and neck, promoting blood circulation in the head, allowing the soreness to melt away like ice.
Step 2: Gently Massage the "Jianjing" Acupoint on the Shoulder Peak, Release Shoulder Pressure
Applicable Area: The most stiff and sore part of the shoulder, often feeling like carrying two bags of rice.
Pressure Point: Place one hand on the opposite shoulder, with the index and middle fingers together, find the depression between the outer end of the clavicle and the scapula (approximately above the nipple).
Technique: Press downward with the middle finger pad, while slowly turning your neck and shoulders. Apply pressure according to a "comfortable pain" level, doing 10 times each side, then repeat on the other side.
Gentle Principle: Jianjing is an important point on the gallbladder meridian. Unblocking it can "remove" the invisible burden on the shoulders, alleviating soreness caused by stagnant blood and qi. Combined with rotation, it's like oiling a rusty door hinge.
Step 3: Press the "Hegu" Acupoint on the Back of the Hand, Regulate from Outside In
Applicable Area: This acupoint is especially effective when shoulder and neck soreness affects the head or arms.
Pressure Point: Bring the thumb and index finger together, locate the highest point of the muscle at the web of the hand (the fingertip landing point when the first transverse crease of the thumb of the other hand aligns with the edge of the web).
Technique: Press vertically with the thumb of the opposite hand, applying moderate pressure without causing sharp pain. Press for 5 seconds, then release, repeating 20 times. You can alternate hands.
Gentle Principle: Hegu is a classic acupoint known as "Hegu closes the face and mouth," capable of regulating the body's overall qi and blood. Pressing it is like opening a window inside the body, allowing stagnant "qi" to flow smoothly, thus naturally reducing soreness.
Make Relaxation a Daily Habit
The above three steps require no tools, and can be completed in 5 minutes every day. Remember: move slowly, breathe deeply, and stay relaxed. Soreness is your body's way of telling you it's time to rest. Instead of resisting, talk to it gently through pressure. After a week of practice, you'll find that your head turns more smoothly without any cracking sounds, and your shoulders will feel as light as if they've shed their armor. Unblocking meridians is essentially taking the tension of life into your fingertips and gently releasing it.
