Acupressure Meridians

10 Minutes of Eastern Self-Massage Daily, Easily Alleviate Shoulder and Neck Aches and Fatigue

Introduction

Do you often feel stiff and sore in your shoulders and neck from sitting for long hours at work or constantly looking down at your phone? Actually, by just spending 10 minutes a day to press on a few key acupoints with your fingers, you can gradually relax tense muscles. The traditional Chinese self-massage method emphasizes "using fingers instead of needles," which is safe and simple, and can be done at home. Today, we will learn a very practical technique - massaging the Fengchi point, to say goodbye to shoulder and neck fatigue.

Why the Fengchi Point?

The Fengchi point is located at the back of the neck, in the depression on the outer side of the two large tendons. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, this is where "wind pathogen" tends to invade, and it's also a crucial switch for unblocking the blood and qi of the head and neck. Gently massaging it can relieve stiffness at the back of the neck, dizziness, and help relax the shoulders.

It's Easy to Find the Right Spot

Place your hands under the back of your head, and move your fingers upward along the middle of your neck until you reach the hairline. There are two spots that feel sore when pressed, which are the Fengchi points. If you can't find them, use both thumbs to slide from behind your ears towards the center of the back of your head, stopping at the hairline. That's where your thumbs are located.

How to Perform the Technique

Use the tips of both thumbs to press on both Fengchi points simultaneously, while the other fingers gently support your head. Slowly and gently press upwards and inward, until you feel a slight soreness, but don't press too hard. Maintain this pressure and rotate clockwise at a speed of one circle per second, continuing for 1-2 minutes, then rest for 10 seconds. Repeat 3-5 times, totaling about 5 minutes. Do this once in the morning and once in the evening every day, or whenever you feel tired.

The Principle of Gentle Regulation

This kind of pressure can stimulate local blood circulation, helping to relax the tense neck muscles and trapezius muscles. Traditional Chinese Medicine refers to this as "unblocking meridians and harmonizing qi and blood," allowing smooth flow of blood and qi in the neck, thus naturally reducing soreness. Remember to keep the whole process gentle and calm, treating yourself like you would a pet, and not pursuing "the more pain, the better."

Summary

Spending 10 minutes a day to locate the Fengchi point and gently massage it can give your shoulders and neck a gentle "deep breath." With persistence, the soreness and fatigue will quietly disappear, leaving you feeling refreshed and light. Remember: health preservation is a daily gentle care, take it slow and it will be more effective.
